Fabulous & Frugal Fun: Tiki-Tastic!

You may have been following my passion for pineapple upside-down cake and for helping my pals Senor Amor and Jonona with their wedding decor in Los Angeles in September by making 16 papier mache volcanos. My recent garage-sale find, discovered on the lawn of a little house in Independence, Missouri, will most certainly fit into the fabulous nupital tabletop.

I spied this wooden structure ($18!) off in the corner of a product-strewn lawn, decked up three tiers and topped off with a pineapple. Just what are the chances that I'd find something that speaks both the language of pineapple and tiki-tastic wedding? I asked the owner about this awe-inspiring piece when a fellow shopper piped up to explain that she had one just like it at home, and that the one I was ogling was missing a top piece for the pineapple. I asked her if she'd be willing to part with her pineapple-topped tier, and she replied, "No way, we use it all the time!"

I happily bought it anyway and have shipped it off the LA where it will be the centerpiece of a wedding that I'm certain guests will never forget!

Headed out for another round of garage sales before flying back to New York.
