Trend Watch: Sailor Chic

As the NYC snow melts, I've been happily browsing spring clothing (I'll be sharing my top picks for girls and boys soon). I wanted to share the first trend that I've noticed- sailor chic! There are navy and white stripes galore, crisp nautical embellishments, and some splashy pops of red. Here are some of my favorite looks:

Oatmeal and Navy Stripe Jersey Blazer ($22-$24; sizes 3-6mos to 5/6 years) at Next. Have I told you about my new obsession with British import Next? It's like Boden but cheaper. Girls' Sailor Stripe Ruffle Dress ($49.50; sizes 2-14) at Crewcuts. I've never purchased clothing from Crewcuts before (it's a bit pricey for me), but I have friends who swear by it. This dress is a great look for casual summer parties.

Americana Peacoat ($42; sizes 2T-12) at Company Kids. I like how Company Kids takes a traditional peacoat and gives it a nautical twist. Perfect for spring.


Girls' Sailor Sweatshirt ($29.50; sizes 4-16) at Lands End. This is a casual (and affordable) nod to the military jacket craze from last fall...and it is a lot more comfortable, too. Check out Lands End's other spring arrivals while you're at the site.


Girls' Ruffled Sailor Tankini ($16.50; sizes 5-16) at Old Navy. This one will sell fast. I love the simple styling with fun details like the ruffled neckline and contrast buttons.

Nautical Applique Tankini for Babies ($16.50, sizes up to 5T) at Old Navy. Not to leave the babies out, Old Navy also has a sailor tankini for babies. Too cute!
