Piggy Paint

My 7-year-old daughter loves painting her nails but I'm not thrilled about the chemicals that exist in many brands of nail polish. So I made a mental note when I read about all natural Piggy Paint in Earnshaw's trade magazine a few months ago, and I was happy to spot it in a neighborhood store recently. Billing itself a "natural, eco-friendly nail polish designed for fancy girls", it has a non-toxic, hypoallergenic formula that will let moms rest a little easier when their girls (or boys) make a mess painting their nails (and then bite on those nails). There is also low odor Piggy Paint nail polish remover, and an assortment of gift sets for holidays, birthdays and other occasions (slumber parties, anyone?) If you've got a 'tween (or a precocious preschooler) in your house, check out Piggy Paint.

Not Ernie's Duckie

I got an e-mail from Skip Hop about its new Dunck stacking bath toys which looks like both a parent and baby-pleaser. The set of 3 nested ducks do double duty as rinse cups, and the open design means no dirty water collecting inside (in fact, these charmers are dishwasher safe, too). Nice mod colors, too. And at $10 a set, these make a quick and easy gift. Snap up a set at Skip Hop.

BlogHer '10 Part 3: The Goods

Besides learning and networking, BlogHer '10 was about products- especially products for moms and kids. Companies exhibited and handed out tons of new items ranging from baby gear to beauty products. Here were some items that I liked the best (where applicable, I noted what I received personally):

Fisher Price Little People Wheels Stand 'n Play Rampway ($39.99 at Toys R Us). It's big, yes (2 feet tall), but how much fun does this look?

Playskool Weebles 2-Packs ($6.96 at Walmart). There's bigger than I remember them, but they still take me back to the 1970s (Remember the jingle: "Weebles Wobble, But They Don't Fall Down!"). I got a pack for R & S, and also one to donate.

Acclaimed children's author/illustrator Todd Parr was on hand to promote his new, limited edition book "Let's Fix Dinner!" ($7.99) in collaboration with Stouffer's.

Inside one of the "swag bags", I received this Vemayca cosmetic bag ($35). It's a super soft, luxurious fabric cosmetic bag with removable liner and it is perfect for weekend getaways.

Remember I told you about the elegant Ralph Lauren event I went to during BlogHer? We learned all about "RL Gang", a virtual storybook (narrated by Harry Connick Jr.) which combines narrative and shopping and launched just this week. We each got a copy of the hardcover storybook, too.

My favorite item of all was this Vera Bradley Very Berry Paisley Tote ($46). I've already received so many compliments on it. It is the 1st Vera Bradley bag I have ever owned.

There were also a lot products given out for infants and new moms. Since I'm out of that stage, I collected my products and samples together and packed them up in this iCandy Lifestyle Changing Bag ($57.99)--which I got at an event hosted by Mom Trends--so that I could donate them. I included new Fisher Price Happy Days & Nights diapers, Lansinoh diaper rash ointment, and Downy detergent, among other items. This week, I'll be delivering them to Inwood House in my neighborhood, where they can be used by teen moms learning how to take care of themselves and their babies.

Finally, dear readers, I have some fun stuff to give away to YOU!!! Yes, I have stashed some swag to include in some giveaways at this blog. That will take place in another week or so; if you want to be alerted when the giveaway(s) has been posted, e-mail me with "newsletter" in the subject line.

Thanks so much to the BlogHer '10 sponsors, exhibitors, and vendors for introducing us to all of these new products. And my daughter (who turns 7 today!) thanks you especially for the Mint Fudge Creme Oreos and Extra Dessert Delights Sugarfree Gum.

The Only Thing Cuter than a Diapered Baby...

...is a baby wearing a monogrammed diaper. You know that "customized" diapers are all the rage now (I reported on the Huggies jeans diapers and Cynthia Rowley diapers for Target). But these Designer Diapers with Initials at Baby Chix are, by far, the cutest entry in the category. Are these the ultimate new add-on baby gift or what? Sure, they cost $1.50 per diaper (one size only, 8-14 lbs), but buy one or two of them to include as part of a gift package and the new mom will be thrilled. Imagine the photo ops! Buy them in pink or blue at Baby Chix.

How to Wear Versace for $50

I hesitate to recommend perfumes on this blog because, hey, I can't really describe to you why I like a particular one other than calling it fruity or floral. But take my word for it- this Versace Bright Crystal perfume that I first sampled in a magazine is really gorgeous. Even R. has been putting it on her wrists. At Amazon.com you can get the 3.0 oz Eau De Toilette Spray for just $42 (regular price $80). Treat yourself.

Couture Diapers: Part Two

Let the couture diaper wars begin. Just one month after Huggies "Jeans Diapers" made a splash onto the scene of gratuitous baby products, word comes that designer Cynthia Rowley has designed patterned Pampers for Target stores. They'll go on sale later this month and patterns will include pastel stripes, madras, and ruffles. I think they look sorta pretty. Nicer than the jeans diapers. But still, they're obviously more of a novelty purchase than anything else. Would you buy them?

"Wipe Sunscreen"

My kids adore the Baby Silk Babysafe Sunscreen Towelettes with SPF 30+ protection by MD Moms; they always ask for this "wipe sunscreen." We've been using them for several summers now, though only at times when the sun is not as strong (early evening, for example), since my kids are very fair and usually require a higher level of SPF protection. Unlike many gloppy sunscreens with strong smells, these little towelettes are completely non-greasy and sweat-proof, and barely have a scent. Of course, they are phthalate-free (I recommend that you read the Environmental Working Group's 2010 Safe Sunscreen Guide, if you haven't already). The downsides? First, that they are only SPF 30+ (my son, especially, burns easily and SPF 30+ does not protect him well enough at mid-day). Second, the price...a whopping $26 for a 15-towelette pack. Save these for special occasions. I still recommend them, though. Check them out at MD Moms.

Enter code "SUMMER" for free shipping and handling on all orders at MD Moms, now through 9/5/10.

Gratuitous Celebrity Photos

Not that I wasn't curious to see yesterday's baby "fashion show" launch of Huggies' new limited edition "jeans diapers" (I was, and I do indeed like them, not for everyday for certainly for a fun photo op), but I was also curious to meet celeb mom Rebecca Romijn. As might be expected, she is gorgeous....and happens to be very sweet too (she just kept smiling when my 6-year-old barked "let's go!" after Rebecca said hello to her and complimented her dress). Her husband Jerry O'Connell was equally sociable and chatted happily with bloggers, photographers, and passerbys in Union Square. And he looked very proud of his wife (he also said he was sorry their own twin girls were not in attendance).

Here are some photos of our morning:

We started at the swank W Hotel in Union Square:

We had breakfast at the W Hotel and then Rebecca Romijn arrived for a "meet and greet":

Her husband Jerry O'Connell was in attendance, too. Not a bad looking couple, eh?

Then we headed out to Union Square for the "fashion show". This is what it looks like when a model/actress and her entourage cross the street in NYC:

My daughter was duly unimpressed by the hooplah and preferred to stay inside the inflatable ball pit that Huggies provided for junior guests (product display in background, naturally)

Rebecca Romijn introduces the fashion show, while some young models tantrum backstage:

Jerry O'Connell applauds his wife:

A biker dude toddler models his Huggies jeans diaper. You gotta admit, it's fun, right?

Dig the diapers + suspenders.

This little girl rocked a bikini top plus the jeans diaper.

What do you think of the jeans diapers? Yay or nay?

Many thanks to Huggies for including me and R. in this event!

Nope, They're For Real

When I was first invited to attend a Huggies event to launch their new "Jeans Diapers", I thought it sounded like a joke (or an SNL commercial). But, no, they are very real. And having seen photos of some little tikes wearing them already, I have to say they are pretty cute, even if gimmick-y. I mean, they make baby toupees and baby high-heeled shoes, so why not a "designer" disposable diaper? They'd make an unusual shower gift (or funky diaper cake), or, at least a cute photo op after Baby arrives. I'll report more after the event today (which my 6-year-old daughter is very excited to be attending with me, even if she has never heard of the celebrity guest- Rebecca Romijn). Want to buy them now? Grab them at Target for $19.99.

Trista and Trumpette

I was invited to a posh party hosted by the Hot Moms Club (oh, the Google visitors that will bring here...) to celebrate the publication of The Hot Mom-to-be Handbook: Look and Feel Great from Bump to Baby. The event was held at the Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa on the Upper East Side, and Trista Sutter (the former Bachelorette- see above) was there. I got to chat with her- she was very friendly and shared some details about her daughter's 1st birthday. I also was treated to a blow-out at the salon (very nice!) and got to meet some top-notch vendors like Trumpette. When I mentioned that my chubby babies both outgrew their cute-but-tiny socks by age 3 months, they told me that several styles of the socks are now available in big kid sizes- up to age 8 years for both girls and boys. Cool!

Other Trumpette items- both current and yet-to-be-released- were on display:

Rhinestone Mary Jane keepsake shoe ($38.50)

"Girl" kid bag (pre-order for $45)

Large Sequin Schleppbag (pre-order for $125), metallic mocs ($31.50), and Summer Mary Janes (pre-order for $29.50)

Thanks, Hot Moms Club, for including me at this event!
