Rainy Days Get Less Gloomy

Here in New York City where you walk your kids to school, there's nothing trickier than navigating a morning downpour while your four-year-old fiddles with a broken umbrella and complains that his/her boots are leaking. I've had a lot of success in the raingear department, though, with our affiliate Hatley, where I've bought my kids raincoats, boots, and umbrellas for the past two years. What first attracted me to Hatley was that their kids' raincoats are all PVC-free (while I like the cute Kidorable froggy designs and such, I don't know why they refuse to switch over to PVC-free). And I happen to like Hatley designs better for slightly older kids. Since S. outgrew last year's coat and boots, I just bought him one of Hatley's brand new designs for boys, this Rescue Animals Boys' Raincoat ($48.99, size 3T-7) along with coordinating Rescue Animals Kids' Rain Boots ($34.99, up to size 12) and Rescue Animals Kids' Umbrella ($19.99). Yes, it's a bit more than I usually spend, but it's well worth it. This is high-quality apparel; the rain jackets are lined and machine washable, the boots don't leak, and the umbrellas don't break like the latest Disney one (though, of course, you'll feel compelled to buy a new one if you change designs). Browse around the new fall designs at Hatley, and order fast if you see something you like- the popular sizes sell out quickly (also, a buying tip- if in doubt about boot sizes, go down a size; they tend to run big). It's a beautiful 80 degree here in NY today, but before you know it, the chilly fall days (and rain) will be upon us!

Psst! I have two ways for you to save money on your Hatley order. First, ALL orders of $50 or more automatically get free shipping (no code needed). Second, use code "RMN20" to get $20 taken off your order of $85 or more now through September 30th (thanks to RetailMeNot.com for this one).

Bargain Alert: The Boys' Store

Via Twitter, I heard about an online shop called The Boys' Store that sells designer clothing for little guys' at big discounts. The selection is somewhat limited (and the site isn't particularly polished), but if you dig you'll find great pieces by brands like Mulberribush, Minibasix, and Wes & Willy. Right now, you can score this Wes & Willy Navy Pea Coat for just $19.50 (regularly $39; sizes 4-16). Plus I have an additional 30% off coupon code for you below, taking the price down to under $14. Score this and other bargains this Labor Day weekend at The Boys' Store.

Get 30% off your entire order this weekend with code "Aug2010" at The Boys' Store.

Here's a great Lands End deal if you want to do some Fall/Winter shopping this Labor Day weekend. Just click through this link to get 25% off ALL Lands End products, plus free shipping on all orders of $50 or more. Very helpful if you want to buy higher-priced items like winter outerwear (always a good idea in September- the popular colors/sizes will start selling out soon). Fall Fashion at Arte Bebe

I've been writing this blog for 3 years and there are several boutique sites that, without fail, serve up the best selection of stylish kids' clothing season after season. One of these is Arte Bebe, which is a go-to destination for finding trend-setting brands like Splendid, Neige, and Appaman. Here are some of my top picks for Fall 2010 clothing you can buy at Arte Bebe:

Appaman Metallic Silver Puffy Coat ($92). In case you haven't noticed, "puffy and shiny" is the new black (more on that in another post), and Appaman's puffy coat is the hottest piece of outerwear (SJP's son has this coat).

I hadn't heard of this brand before, but I'm digging Kapital K's Trapper Hat in Camo ($23 in 2-4; $26 in 5-8); you should check out the matching camo pants, too. I like the subtlety of the pattern.

A former Vera Wang designer makes the beautiful knit separates by Neige, like this thick Neige Anna Sweater Coat ($96 sizes 2-6; $100 size 7).

Lastly, Splendid has another hit with this just-right-for-autumn Orange-and- Navy Stripe Thermal Hoodie ($52/$54; sizes 2-6X). Arte Bebe sent this for S. and I am hooked (so is he). He is sensitive to some fabrics and styles, but Splendid's thermal tees are luxuriously soft and comfortably. Note that they run a bit small- order a size up if in doubt.

There's lots more, with new products arriving all the time (oh, and you know those 3 Sprouts Wall Organizers I mentioned a little while ago? You can buy those here too).

Shopping for back-to-school clothes? Get 10% off any clothing purchased at Arte Bebe now through October 15th, 2010 with code "MMMFALL". Coupon applies to clothing purchases only.

Grandma Goes Shopping

My mom recently hit some outlet stores (Carter's, Osh Kosh, and Children's Place) and came back with lots of Fall basics for the kids (socks, tights, tees, etc.) Which is a good thing, since both kids had growth spurts this summer and even their socks barely fit (can you believe that both my 7-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother wear a size 1 shoe?) I'm thrilled with everything Grandma bought, but I think that R. will like this purchase the best- a Faux-Layer Houndstooth Dress from The Children's Place's new "Plaid to Rock" collection. It's actually only available online or in the outlet stores (not in-store), so snap it up fast (it's available in black, too) at ChildrensPlace.com ($14.98 in sizes 4-14).

Thanks for the goodies, Grandma!

Psst! I've got one online coupon code left for 15% off your entire purchase at ChildrensPlace.com, valid now through August 28th. Want it? E-mail me with "Children's Place" in the subject line, and I'll send it to the 1st person to respond. Enjoy!

MyMomShops Giveaway: LikeWear

My almost-7-year-old daughter is obsessed with Silly Bandz and I knew she would flip for this Silly Love Rubber Bandz ($22.95) that I purchased from our newest affiliate, LikeWear. Sure enough, the shirt has become a favorite and lots of R's friends have asked where she got it.

So, LikeWear is a clothing/accessory company that does two very smart things

1) It carries apparel with licensed images from some of your kids' favorite brands and icons- everything from Honda motorcycles to Lucky Charms cereal. The shirts are all 100% cotton and the prices are quite reasonable- most cost around $20. Not surprisingly, Silly Bandz clothing and accessories are a top seller this summer. But I also like the Facebook "Like" T-shirts (they kindly sent a "Like" Grey T-shirt for S. along with the tee that I"d ordred for R.)

2) LikeWear has positioned itself as a mom-friendly company where moms like you or I can earn money from sales of its clothing right from our computers. Their entire sales force, in fact, is made up of moms and the company offers various opportunities for you to choose from. Sort of like how our own moms sold Tupperware, but online, and with a much more fun product.

I like the concept, I like the people I've communicated with there, and, most importantly, I like the products. Go see if you "like" LikeWear too.

MyMomShops readers get a generous 25% discount on any purchase (except sale items) at LikeWear with coupon code MYMOMSHOPS (note: this code will be activated at approximately 4pm today). And one lucky winner will get a $20 gift certificate (see below).

Win it! One reader will win a $20 gift certificate to LikeWear. Here are the contest rules:

1) Visit LikeWear and tell us your favorite item from the site. Leave your comment on THIS post (click on "comments" below).
2) Post your comment by 11:59pm EST on Thursday, July 22nd.
3) You may leave up to 3 separate entries- 1 entry with a comment as described in #1, 1 entry with a link to where you have blogged about this giveaway, 1 entry with your Twitter name if you have tweeted about this giveaway.
4) One winner will be chosen at random (using Random.org) and announced on Friday morning, July 23rd.
5) NOTE: If you wish to be contacted by e-mail if you win, please include your e-mail address in your comment. Otherwise you must check back on Friday morning, July 23rd. If the prize is NOT claimed within 72 hours, the next random winner (using Random.org) will be contacted.

GOOD LUCK!

PO.P Goes the Summer Sale

Remember Polarn O. Pyret. ("PO.P"), the fantastic Swedish kids' (and maternity) clothing brand that I hosted a trunk show for last September? They have a big summer sale going on now with prices up to 50% off their colorful, high quality cotton threads. And these aren't just flimsy summer tees; you can also score great deals on beefy outerwear like this hand-me-downable Unisex Infants' Spring Wind Fleece Jacket (reduced to $28.25 from $57.50). Some of my other top picks from the PO.P sale are the baby summer track jacket, embroidered maternity dress and "Get Me There" top. There's something for just about everyone in the family (except Dad, sorry). Enjoy shopping at the PO.P summer sale

Get free shipping on any order with code "MOMPOP" for the next 5 days only at PO.P.

BlogHer 2010: First, What to Wear?

In just a few weeks, I'll be attending BlogHer '10, the fifth annual sold-out two-day conference where over one thousand women bloggers descend on a city for learning, networking, and socializing (read: lots of parties with pink drinks). This year, BlogHer is being held in New York, which is why I can finally go. I am beyond excited and will be posting more about it both before, during, and after the big event. Not to trivialize the importance of BlogHer by talking wardrobe, but, hey, why not? Some bloggers even get offers to be "dressed" by certain designers...a la the Academy Awards. No such luck for me (yet) so I instead I'm eyeying this double V-neck knit dress($89.50) in pink from my standby, Ann Taylor Loft. This weekend only, regular-priced dresses happen to be 40% off with coupon "FIX40", so it would cost just about $54. I've been losing weight, too (7 lbs so far...it is hard work but soooo worth it), so a new dress would be a sweet reward. Unless, of course, Armani wants to style me. Just kidding.

Want to learn more about BlogHer '10? Click this link to get the 411. (And enjoy a 40% discount on regular-priced merchandise at Ann Taylor Loft this weekend with code FIX40. You'll also get free shipping on orders over $125)

Seriously Swanky

Lil'Swanky is a boutique site where you can often find great deals on designer kids' clothing from established brands like Appaman and Little Ella, or about-to-make-it-big names like Ryder & James, Scotch & Soda, and Saurette. All of these brands are well-represented in Lil'Swanky's summer sale, where you could grab trendy toddler togs like this Splendid Littles Boy Tri-Color Dip Dye Tee and Short Set for $49.60 (originally $72, then reduced to $62).

Enjoy an extra 20% off already marked down styles with code "SUMMER" now through July 16th.

Petunia's Perfect Hostess Gift

If you're looking for a chic summer hostess gift that doesn't break the bank, check out this Summertime in Surrey reusable shopper tote by diaper bag designer Petunia Pickle Bottom, available at our affiliate Layla Grayce. It's a practical gift for any household (one that includes children or not). It's sized generously at 16 x 15.5 x 3.5 inches and folds flat for easy storage. Plus it has a small front pocket for quick access to keys and phone. This Surrey pattern- a modern floral in a chocolate brown and gold palette- is my favorite, but several others are available, too. And here are two more things to love. First, the price tag- the bag costs just $12 and that includes free shipping plus PLUS free gift wrap/gift message (instructions on that below). Finally, Layla Grayce is a star company in my book. They did something very special to help a little girl and her family this past Spring. Visit Layla Grayce and check the coupon code below.

To get free gift wrapping and free gift message on a Petunia Pickle Bottom shopper tote at Layla Grace, add gift wrap to your Petunia item and then enter in your recipient's name and gift message. Then enter code PPBGW in the promotion code box on the shopping cart page.
