Trend Watch: Skeleton PJs

I really liked these Sleepy Skeleton Glow-in-the-Dark PJs in the Chasing Fireflies catalog, but at $38 per pair, the price was a little steep for me (and now they're not shipping till 10/13 anyway). Luckily, I snagged Gymboree's knock-off pairs (currently on sale for $10) a few weeks ago, before they sold out of most sizes big-kid sizes. R. and S. love their new glow-in-the-dark pink and black skeleton PJs and enjoy "Halloween dance parties" in their darkened rooms with "Monster Mash" playing in the background. I wonder if they will tire of this by Halloween? Anyway, if Gymboree doesn't have your kids' sizes, and you don't want to pay Chasing Fireflies prices (or wait till mid-October), try Ebay. Just type "skeleton pajamas" into the searchbox and you'll find plenty of the Gymboree pajamas in lots of sizes (such as NWT Boys' size 5 and NWT Girls' size 8), available right away.

Best Boy Wall Art

This personalized tricycle wall art by Hip Kid Art has been one of my favorite decor items for boys ever since I posted it at this blog over 3 years ago. So I was excited to spot it on sale at Zulily (a site I check every morning) in 2 sizes- 24 x 18 (on sale for $89.99; originally $125) or 12 x 12 (on sale for $49.99; originally $75). Each giclee-printed heavyweight canvas is gallery wrapped around a wooden frame, and ready to hang on the wall. And the light blue/navy/red color combo is one of my absolute favorites for little boys. Can't go wrong with these either for yourself or as an extra-special baby gift or birthday gift.

Having trouble clicking on the Zulily links because you're not a member yet? Click here for an invitation to join. It's an awesome site and I am somewhat obsessed with it, to say the least.

Automoblox Cars on Sale

I've mentioned before how much S. loves his Automoblox cars, so I wanted to tell you that you can save some money on soon-to-be-retired Automoblox vehicles at GummyLump.com. For example, the Purple X9 Wooden SUV has been reduced to $29.97 from $37.95. Shipping at Gummy Lump is always free for orders over $75 so shop around for other wooden toys including Melissa & Doug, KidKraft, and Uncle Goose Wooden Blocks. Gummy Lump also earns kudos for paying extra attention to children with special needs and their parents, both on its site and on Twitter. Thanks, Gummy Lump!

Top photo: Automoblox cars (and what S. calls their "little guys") occupied us on rainy days during this year's beach vacation.

Mama, It's Cold Outside

It's starting to get a little chilly, and if past winters are any indication, by Thanksgiving my children will be fully outfitted in new winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves, while I will be shivering in an old jacket and mismatched mittens from the drugstore. But I've taken a step towards taking care of myself, too, by purchasing some winter accessories from Zulily today, where there's a super sale of women's winter gear by San Diego Hat Company (I hadn't heard of them either). These cute knit beanies, berets, and scarves add a punch of color to your winter wardrobe, and ensure that your kids aren't the only ones staying warm in style. Shown above: the Multi-color red pom-pom beanie ($9.99; retails for $25). I'm pairing it with the Berry Knit Scarf ($11.99; retails for $30). Maybe for once, my daughter will wish something of mine comes in her size. Check out the San Diego Hat Company sale for moms at Zulily.

Haven't joined members-only Zulily yet? Don't worry- you can click on this link for an invitation and start scooping up their killer sales right away. Plus, you'll get a $10 credit for each friend you refer who makes a purchase. Win-win for everyone!

How to Wear Versace for $50

I hesitate to recommend perfumes on this blog because, hey, I can't really describe to you why I like a particular one other than calling it fruity or floral. But take my word for it- this Versace Bright Crystal perfume that I first sampled in a magazine is really gorgeous. Even R. has been putting it on her wrists. At Amazon.com you can get the 3.0 oz Eau De Toilette Spray for just $42 (regular price $80). Treat yourself.

Going Glam for Less

My kids and I are hitting the beach this weekend, so I'll be posting again on Monday morning. There will be a fun kids' clothing giveaway to start the week off right (think Silly Bandz...). Have a great weekend!

I know it is not considered haute decor, but I really have been enjoying Pier 1's offerings in the past year or so. They always have pieces that can make your home look Hollywood glam on a budget. Here are some elegant, neutral pieces that I'm eyeing right now:

Large Venetian Dots Mirror ($199.95).

Ivory Genie Lamp ($55)

Micro-Dot Pillow ($25.95)

Do you shop at Pier 1, too? What have you been most successful finds there?

It's a Boy, It's a Girl, IsaBooties

Is there anything cuter than tiny baby shoes? Not really. Now through Thursday, July 15th, all pairs of soft-soled baby shoes at our affiliate IsaBooties are just $20 (reduced from their regular $29 price). IsaBooties are known for their trademark soft soles, 100% animal free materials, and easy slip-on designs. My favorite pair is the Pink Tulip Toes ($20, sizes 3mos-24mos). These baby booties make a thoughtful gift (and welcome change from the dozens of onesies new parents receive). I've always liked that IsaBooties' site has a selection of Barefoot Books, too, so you can shop at the same time for a sibling gift. Plus, their standard (free) gift wrapping is pretty nice- your gift is wrapped in 100% recycled brown kraft wrapping paper and tied with a purple grosgrain ribbon along with your gift message. Check out all the goods at IsaBooties .

Enjoy $20 pricing on all shoes (no coupon code needed) at IsaBooties, today and tomorrow (July 15th).

PO.P Goes the Summer Sale

Remember Polarn O. Pyret. ("PO.P"), the fantastic Swedish kids' (and maternity) clothing brand that I hosted a trunk show for last September? They have a big summer sale going on now with prices up to 50% off their colorful, high quality cotton threads. And these aren't just flimsy summer tees; you can also score great deals on beefy outerwear like this hand-me-downable Unisex Infants' Spring Wind Fleece Jacket (reduced to $28.25 from $57.50). Some of my other top picks from the PO.P sale are the baby summer track jacket, embroidered maternity dress and "Get Me There" top. There's something for just about everyone in the family (except Dad, sorry). Enjoy shopping at the PO.P summer sale

Fancy Dress for Chuck E. Cheese

Last year R. had her 6th birthday party at renowned NYC confectionary Dylan's Candy Bar. This year (lucky for my wallet) she has chosen a far more pedestrian location- Chuck E. Cheese. Yes, everyone has warned me about the madness that is Chuck E. Cheese, but she insists. She wants to wear another fancy pink party dress this year and decided on this Kitty Kat Silk Rosette Ruffles Party Dress from Macy's. It's currently on sale for $59.99 (originally $92) though I bought it for even less over the July 4th holiday weekend sale. It's very pretty and I'm quite sure it will promptly be stained by (mediocre, I'm told) pizza and ice cream at Chuck E. Cheese. No matter. She only turns 7 once, right? It is one of the first dresses I've bought her from a "big girls'" (7-14) section of a department store (sniff, sniff). Check out the other size 7-14 dress offerings at Macy's. You may see why I wish she still wore a size 6!

Patriotic Plates

I've always liked Pottery Barn Kids melamine plates, which are now made of eco-friendly bamboo (they're also BPA and phthalate-free). We have a Halloween set (which my kids like to use all year) but I'd love to add these retro-style, soda pop-inspired Americana Plates to our collection, too. They're on sale for $16 (regularly $20) for a set of 4, and I think they work just as well for grown-ups as for toddlers. Take a look at all of Pottery Barn Kids' tableware here.

Red, White and Blue Sibs

My kids seem to enjoy wearing brother/sister outfits, particularly for holidays or special occasions, but they can get expensive. I was glad I got to scoop up some 4th of July outfits recently at The Children's Place for next to nothing. I got R. this Americana Woven Dress (reduced to $14.75 from $29.50) and S. the coordinating USA Baseball Tee ($8.50) and Americana Bermuda shorts (reduced to $9.75 from $19.50) also shown above. I think the unisex patriot slip-on sneakers (reduced to 9.90 from 16.50 ) are pretty cute too. Visit The Children's Place Americana Collection to see what sizes are left (act fast!); many items are up to 50% off.

P.S. Remember to also check Coupon Chief and Retail Me Not before making a purchase from The Children's Place; both sites frequently post coupons for the store.
